You can't win if you don't play
So let's Play Bingo!
The Bingo Volunteer Team recently learned of the passing of fellow volunteer Helen Ellis, pictured at left by her popular "Treat Table" themed for St Pat's Day.
Helen served the Bingo program as Head of the Treat Table and aid to weekly players from MorningStar, Fountain View Village and others needing assistance since Bingo resumed in 2020. She also served as a Community Center Volunteer for over 20 years, receiving the Volunteer of the Year Award for that service.
Helen was a dedicated volunteer on the Bingo team and will be sorely missed by her fellow volunteers and players she served week in and week out.
Helen faithfully stocked, decorated and manned the Treat Table, a favorite feature of Bingo players who support the cause by participating in the monthly 50/50 raffle that partially re-stocks the table. Helen always made sure to dress accordingly to match her table!
Helen, pictured third from the right, was recently remembered by her team members......
"The one thing I can really think of is she had her own way of doing things like the treat table....she would bring things from home for the holidays to make it look festive." Suzi
"My memory of Helen was how she took care of the wheelchair players and made sure they had treats from the table she so carefully set up." Carol
"The memory I have of Helen is the way she was always there to help with the treat table and also help the people with whatever they needed. She was always available to help no matter what. She did like to do it her way which helped everyone." Judy
"When I started going to Bingo many years ago, Helen was the very first person that I met as I was seated at her table. She helped everyone that was new to Bingo and helped them figure out how to play. After Covid when Bingo resumed, she was the hostess at the treat table and never missed a Tuesday. She was very dedicated to doing things her way and did a fantastic job. She was a great friend and will be missed." Carol
"I will miss her...she was always fun to work with." Mark
"Helen was the first to assist anyone less fortunate than her: MorningStar, Fountain View or any other new players. It's no wonder she was Volunteer of the Year...a kind and considerate woman." Jan
"Helen was so proud of the Treat Table that she decorated and prepared each week. She truly believed in Bingo's Mission Statement as she would 'Greet, Smile and Serve' all our players with compassion, respect and love each week. We will all miss Helen....I am so pleased that Helen passed my way." Joanna
God Bless you Helen......
You will be sorely missed but long remembered.
When the Community Center reopened the second ballroom allowing Bingo to resume on August 1, 62 players anxiously returned for an afternoon of cool fun, beating last year's attendance by 11. It's quite possible that the "Bingo deprivation" caused by the Community Center's temporary closure was a contributing factor.....but more likely that Bingo's reputation for THE place to be on Tuesday afternoons is spreading! Hope to see you this Tuesday, August 8 as we continue pursuing our mission of "Greet, Smile and Serve"!
FUN FORECAST FOR AUGUST 15!!
Rumor has it that August 15th will be having a Player Appreciation Bingo Event featuring a Free Gift Certificate Bingo Admission Raffle, a 50/50 raffle at $1/ticket, a $25 Visa Card and Ice Cream Intermission. Let's Play Bingo...the best solution to the dog days of summer!!
Doris Reisher, first row left, won the Cactus Pillow and $58 cash in the 50/50 (sharing $58 with the treat table). Joining her in the first row is Marta Ludwig, one of Bingo's new callers.
Left to right second row are Felicita Glose, the $120 Progressive Jack Pot Winner in 42#'s, and Dennis Kramp, another new Bingo caller.
New callers Marta and Dennis both did a great job sharing the calling responsibilities and reported having a fun time doing it!
Bingo Volunteer Carol manned the 50/50 Raffle Table and sold $116 worth of tickets.
Our Bingo Volunteers, their never ending smiles and willingness to serve are what make the Bingo Program the success it is.
Therese Kuban!! Therese is a Morningstar resident that is a weekly Bingo player and brings new players each week.
Take a lead from Therese and start spending Tuesday afternoons with the fun folks at Bingo.....you could be a big winner too!
Just a reminder......no Bingo this Tuesday, July 25 due to the temporary closing of the Community Center for repairs.
A sure fired way to having laughs and a good time is being served by volunteers with radiant smiles that enjoy what they are doing. Weekly Bingo is one of the best places to find just exactly that!
Forty eight players enjoyed June 13th Bingo complete with ice cream and new rotating caller Jack (pictured left) who did a great job. Helen again provided the popular treat table and Carol sold the 50/50 tickets that made Jeanne Horwitz a happy recipient of $45.00 with $44.00 "refueling" the treat table. Volunteers Suzi, Jan, and Carol A kept the smiles and service coming throughout the afternoon while Joanna and Joan assisted Jack and even cleaned up twice! Joan actually cleaned up a third time when she won the $200 coverall at game #10!
Don't forget to put Bingo on your calendars as a recurring Tuesday event at the Community Center.....ticket sales run from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm with play beginning at 1:30 pm.....you won't regret it and you'll make our day!!

82 players participated in Easter's Bingo on Tuesday, April 4 including the jelly bean contest. The correct number was 518 and won by Kathy Dunlevy who guessed 509. Kathy also took home a scented calendar for her guessing prowess!
New volunteer Carol A. Shotola was introduced and received a warm welcome....she will serve as a greeter, dauber sales and substitute.
Not only did our 50/50 winner Dianne, a frequent Fountain View Village player, win $76 (half of the 50/50 raffle), she took home the colorful bird pillow pictured above.
Volunteer Carol donned some rabbit ears and chatted with weekly player Lorraine. Our 2022 Volunteers were treated to appetizers including shrimp, meatballs, cubed cheese, Brie, crackers and chocolate eggs. They were also thanked for their ongoing service to the Bingo Program during announcements. The First Bingo Volunteer of the Year Award was announced but went to all volunteers since all did such a collectively great job!
Cash awards added up to $685 which included $100, $90, two $50, and $200 plus.
87 players participated in St. Patrick's Bingo on Tuesday, March 14, only one less than the all time high of 88 which occurred prior to the pandemic.
Many wore green, many came to win the jackpots, and many came to enjoy the mint chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches served at break time!
And some came intent on showing off their best Irish headgear!
Bingo Volunteers Carol, Suzi and Joann manning the registration table and setting the mood for some Irish fun!
Volunteer Helen never disappoints the players by stocking and decorating the Treat Table for game day! Players voted to continue the 50/50 raffle on a monthly basis or special Bingo event to help fund the Table for all to enjoy. The latest raffle totalled $176 in sales with $88 going for treats!
St. Patrick's Bingo winners were awarded "some green". Left to right, Carol won the Progressive Jackpot for $150; Charles and Lorraine each won $100. Other great cash prizes were awarded
The players always like the Free Raffle for a free Bingo Admission Gift Certificate plus 10 donated prizes that were well received.......those who wore green received an extra free raffle ticket.....where else but Tuesday Bingo!
Volunteers Suzi and Mark, even taller in his green derby, greet visitors to the festivities. Mark is one of Bingo's favorite callers and serves in many ways.
Jan mans the Bingo Card Board ready to explain to players their options in purchasing Bingo playing cards.
Players stayed until the last call....so great to see many familiar faces in the crowd.
To be sure, these two lassies epitomized the St. Patty's spirit and dedication to Bingo!
May God give you:
For every storm, a rainbow,
For every tear, a smile,
And or every care, a promise,
And a blessing in each trial.
For every problem life sends,
A faithful friend to share,
For every sigh, a sweet song,
And an answer for each prayer.
Encore Board Member and Bingo Coordinator Joanna Hernan promises a special day....stay tuned.
Volunteers Suzi, Jan and Joann greeted, smiled and served a record 84 players on February 14th that featured Bingo's "Lite Bite" Valentine Day Event!
Volunteers Carol, Helen and Mark gave out over 300 "Hershey" kisses at the event. Mark also sold $182 worth of 50/50 tickets....$91 going to the treat table that all players enjoy and $91 to the lucky ticket holder that made a good decision to play Bingo that day!
Lite bite sandwiches and salads were donated by our volunteers and served by Carol and Michael.....happy players then visited Helen's Treat Table. Jan also served her homemade chocolate and berry candies. We have no pictures because they disappeared so quickly!
Bingo Director Joanna said "everything was coming up kisses, candy and the color RED!.....almost all players donned pink, red, and everything in between....a great day!
The "love bird" pillow was taken home in a happy player's arms and a free Bingo admission Gift Certificate, Kisses, and Red Daubers awarded!
Valentine Bingo produced two $100 games plus other dollar prizes. No player won the progressive Jackpot so next week it will be $120 in 42 numbers or less. Remember.....you can't win if you don't play.....join us!
Bingo again broke a post-covid record today as we greeted, smiled and served 83 players....11 more than last week. Our pre-covid record was 88 so we're inching towards achieving new heights as we broaden the appeal of this weekly program that promotes new friendships, entertainment and fun to say nothing of cash prizes!
We were given the larger Bingo room complete with two Bingo display boards that always enhances the experience. To top it off we had two jackpot winners!
Bingo is on the move and this is our top season ever! Join us on Tuesdays at the Community Center and become part of our Bingo family....you won't regret it!
Featured in photo left to right: Bingo caller Mark Dalton, Jackpot Winners Glenn Larson, Bob Fall, and Bingo Coordinator/Encore Board member Joanna Hernan.

Today's players enjoyed the cash prizes, treats, fun, and welcome chatter between winter visitors and players. We also awarded our Progressive Jackpot of $120 today. Needless to say it was a great payout day for bingo.

November 8th Bingo launched the holiday season in style by revealing the Bingo wreath that will join other community wreaths on display at the Community Center. Thanks to the Bingo Volunteer Team of Joan, Suzi, Helen, Carol, Joanna and Wreath Team Leader Jan McNally who decided to create and fund the Encore for More, Senior Services Bingo Wreath! They have started a tradition that marks Bingo's place and contribution to our community!
Encore's Bingo Program is quickly becoming the community's weekly event that is so much more than a game matching numbers on a card with numbers on a large board. It's about friendship, fun, volunteering, sharing, community and maybe even winning!.
Halloween came early to Bingo this week. 56 players enjoyed our holiday event as well as the treats provided by Volunteer Suzi and served by Volunteer Helen.....no wonder we love our great Volunteer Team who dressed for the occasion and got a round of applause!
Players also got into the act by wearing orange, six of them even adorned in full costume. Next year we may have to have a contest for best costume!
Caller Mark set the mood with spooky music and winners enjoyed the prizes, especially the $100 coverall.
The raffle went well and our volunteers donated prizes to grow our Free Admission Certificate award in November.
REMEMBER:
November 8th Bingo goes to one room due to construction and returns to two rooms with two boards on November 15th
Bingo's Goodbye Summer - Hello Fall was a hit! Celebrating one year since Encore's Bingo Program re-bound from Covid and the CC's remodel, we welcomed 70 players....a record attendance! More players result in more revenue, larger prizes, happy players and winners and that happened today!
Everyone enjoyed the delectable food trays provided by Chef Brian from Fountain View Village and loved the introduction of "Bingo", the Birthday Bear who will help celebrate monthly birthdays the first Tuesday of every month along with the official Happy Birthday Bingo Caller!
We have great plans to expand to two ballrooms and TWO bingo boards during the winter visitor months in anticipation of 80 to 90 players....if we plan for it.....it will come with your help....spread the word! Remember....more players = more revenue = larger prizes!!
Both of our callers, Mark and Ray, were recognized for their volunteer service. Not only do they set up the equipment they do a great job calling the games.
Our dedicated volunteers make this program a success.....from their smiling faces greeting our guests, helping with set up and take down week after week and making this program run smoothly, I simply say "Thank You" and "Let's Play Bingo"!
